A lovely walk straight from Oak Apple Barn (about 5 miles)

Hill Top Farm is where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her wonderful stories. About 6 mile walk with a couple of pubs on the way.

Beautiful church, dating from mid 1500’s, with many cultural events. Wonderful views over the village.

Just turn left at the bottom of the road, opposite the campsite. You can show yourself around - the keys are available at the NT shop in the village.

In and around Hawkshead

The immediate area around Oak Apple Barn has a huge amount to offer. These are all within walking distance (albeit some quite a long walk!), and well worth just browsing.

Although the castle is not open to the public, the magnificent gardens are (check for times). Wonderful walk to Wray Church as well. About 6 miles round trip.

Wray Castle

Home of John Ruskin, one of the greatest figures of the Victorian age, poet, artist, critic, social revolutionary and conservationist. House and gardens, great tea room, lovely views. About 8 miles there and back.
